Trippy old movie?

I was up late one night watching sci-fi or something, and this movie came on...I remember very little about it but this guy made some kind of chamber, and the more he used this chamber, he started looking more and more like a caveman. They started taking X-rays of him and showing them to people that didn't know what the X-ray was of, and the people said it looked like an odd ape skull...sorry I don't know more but I fell asleep watching it. Can somebody please help me? It was fairly low quality, something from the early 90s or older.
