People have been taught their whole lives that they should believe in God (or whatever prevailing religion is), so they think they should believe, so they try to believe no matter what. Not everyone can say "Hey, it doesn't make sense, so I'm not going to go with the status quo." Some people just have to follow the norm, so they try to believe no matter what they believe in their heart.
