Cd player or cd changer?

so my car(99 beetle) has a on that says cd changer but when i bought the car(used not from a vw dealer) it didnt have the cd changer anymore so would it be a better deal to get the changer or just have a cd player installed? and whatare good brands for a changer and player? thanks!!!
